122 runners run marathon tied together to raise money for Cancer Research Wales – runnersworld.com
122 runners took on The Wales Marathon 2019 tied together in order to raise money for Cancer Research Wales. The runners also broke the Guinness World Record for the most runners linked to complete a marathon for their efforts.
All of the runners in the challenge had been affected by cancer in some way. The organiser of the challenge, Neal Gardener, was first to set the Guinness World Record in 2009 with a group of 30 runners. After hearing that a close friend had been diagnosed with cancer, Gardner decided to try and reclaim the record ten years later.
Speaking to Guiness World Records, Gardener said, “In October [2018] I received the sad news that a very good friend and work colleague, Pip Morgan, had been diagnosed with stage four cancer. It was time to do it all again!”
Running in 30 rows of four runners, the team crossed the line in six hours and 47 minutes.
