Cheltenham makes sure 2023 starts with a bang thanks to a cracking New Year’s Day meeting at the home of Jumps racing.
We’re sponsoring the big race of the afternoon, the Paddy Power New Year’s Day Handicap Chase at 13:55, which boasts a £100,000 prize pot, and is set to feature a whole host of runners that have course-and-distance form including Paddy Power Gold Cup third and fourth, Midnight River and Il Ridoto.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
The supporting cast includes a pair of Grade 2 contests. The first of which is the Paddy Power Novices’ Chase at 13:20, which will see Grade 1-winning hurdler Monmiral attempt to get off the mark over the larger obstacles after bumping into Jonbon last time out. The second is the Relkeel Hurdle as Brewin’upastorm attempts to make up for last year’s fall at the final flight but younger rivals including Greatwood scorer I Like To Move It and Elite Hurdle hero Knappers Hill are pitched into the mix.
We’ve also got our name on a competitive looking Class 2 Paddy Power Handicap Hurdle and the Listed JCB ‘Junior’ National Hunt Flat Race concludes the action at 3.40pm.
It is Cheltenham’s penultimate meeting before the big one in March and key form lines are starting to converge, although the majority of leading lights were in action at Kempton and Leopardstown over the festive period.
The latest horse racing odds are on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise everything you need to know about the New Year’s Day meeting at Cheltenham can be found below.
