Organisers of this half marathon apologise for cancelling six days before the race – runnersworld.com

On Monday, the English Half Marathon was cancelled six days before race day, leading runners to take to social media to share their disappointment. In a statement, organisers wrote, “This message is to inform you that due to us not being able to guarantee all the necessary components to deliver a safe and fun race weekend experience, we are having to postpone this weekend’s races and associated activities to a weekend later in the year.

“For those who have participated in our event in previous years know, we take our obligations very seriously and demand the very best for our runners, volunteers, local partners and our Warrington community. This decision is a difficult one for us to take, as we know that you have dedicated yourself to your training and possibly fundraising over a number of months and to hear this message at the beginning of race week will be a blow to many.”

Runners took to Twitter to share their disappointment at the late cancellation after weeks of training. The race, which attracts runners from all over Greater Manchester, was set to take place in Cheshire on Sunday.

In a following statement issued yesterday, organisers wrote, “We can only apologise for the disappointment, frustration and anger that the postponement of this weekend’s event has rightly caused. We are desperately trying to get the right outcome for everybody, and we are engaging in positive conversations with all relevant parties about whether a new event date is deliverable.”

They added that they were not in a position to confirm whether runners would be getting a full refund, or whether the race will be rearranged for a later date.
