Food Truck Friday Plaza Midwood at Resident Culture Brewing: As always, they’ve got live music, unique brews and food trucks, including The Dumpling Lady, Streamline Kitchen, What The Fries CLT, Food Truck: My Sausage Buddy, Libretto’s Pizzeria Charlotte, Waffle Tastries and Hip Hop Smoothies. 4-9 p.m. Free. Food Truck Friday South End at Sycamore Brewing: This weeks banging lineup includes Papi Queso Food Truck, TIN Kitchen, OooWee BBQ, Gyro Twins Truck, GOGI, Chef Ray’s Cuban Cuisine, Chilaka Tacolab and Rollicious Ribs & More. Charlotte Symphony: Nightmare Before Christmas at Belk Theater: No one does Halloween better than Tim Burton. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” will be playing on the big screen and orchestra will bring the music to life for an even spookier experience. 7:30 p.m. $19+. Details.

Whitewater Center Film Series at U.S. National Whitewater Center: Every Friday in October you can head to the USNWC for movie night. Pumpkin picking at Hall Family Farm:Hall Family Farm has a little bit of something for everyone, including a pumpkin patch, hayrides, a 5-acre corn maze and of course, the Instagrammable delicious apple cider doughnut sundaes. 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Pumpkins are $0.64 per pound. Details.

Pumpkin picking at Wise Acres: What could be better than eating pizza and and picking a pumpkin on a sunny fall day? Not much. Wise Acres also had a corn pit, wagon rides, a corn maze, zip lines, playgrounds and a barrel train. Pumpkins: are$0.69 per pound. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Details.

Pumpkin picking at Carrigan Farms: During the day, a hayride will take you to the patch so you can hunt for your perfect pumpkin. But there’s also plenty to do at night, whether you prefer spooky or sweet Halloween activities. You can opt for the night hayride which will take you to a bonfire (you can bring your own s’mores materials for roasting) or head to “Scarrigan Farms” for a haunted trail (not for kids). 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. $11 (pumpkin + hayride). SCarowinds at Carowinds: Carowinds transforms from “theme park” to “scream park” for its annual SCarowinds Halloween attraction. The event features 500+ monsters, ghosts and goblins roaming the grounds plus haunted attractions and shows. 7 p.m. to midnight. $32+. Details.

Terrors of the Past at Charlotte Museum of History: In this immersive theatrical attraction, participants will journey into the darkness of the woods to solve the mysterious death of Polly Alexander. $30-$45. 6-10 p.m. Details.

Runway 5K at 5020 Hangar Road: Anyone can watch the race for free, but there are three 5K options for runners/walkers (5K regular, 5K baby jogger walk/run and 5K wheelchair). You get to run/walk on the airport runway, so it’s a quick and flat race surrounded by planes taking off. 8 a.m. $35. Details.

ON THE AGENDA

CLT s’MACdown. There’s nothing more comforting than soft shells, cheese and butter mixed up in a delicious bowl. So get your fill of the classic plus more innovative renditions at this mac and cheese competition — and sip some craft brews along the way. November 9.

Ice skating at the Whitewater Center opens. Make all of your Hallmark movie dreams come true and glide into the holiday spirit with an outdoor skating rink. Plus, they’ll have a skate-up bar where you can buy coffee, hot chocolate and beer. Expect the Whitewater Center to debut their holiday light installation later this month, too. Mid-November.

2019 Novant Health Charlotte Marathon. Go the distance and complete the full 26.2 miles or opt for the half, marathon relay or 5K races. Your kiddos can join the run and do a 1-mile fun run, too. Proceeds from the annual race support Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital Child Life Program, as well as 35-40 different Boy Scout troops, high school organizations and other nonprofits. November 16.
