Track And Field Has Success In First Meet After Break  Memphis Official Athletic Site

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kolbeinn Gunnarsson, DeeNia McMiller and Zachary Wyatt all were double winners in pacing the University of Memphis track and field squads at the seventh-annual KMS Invitational. The results were completed late Sunday night.
 
The meet was held at the Birmingham CrossPlex, which is the site for the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championship in late February. The KMS Invitational was a non-scoring meet.
 
Gunnarsson won his two titles in the men’s 200 meters and as a member of the 4×200-meter relay, and Wyatt secured his two first-place finishes in the men’s 3000 meters and as a member of the distance medley relay. McMiller swept the women’s shot put and weight throw crowns.
 
Other Memphis first-place finishers included: Allie Hughes in the women’s pole vault; Ladasia Jordan in the women’s high jump; Iason Machairas in the men’s shot put; and Jordan Wesner in the men’s high jump.
 
The title win was Walton’s second-straight this indoor season. She also won the event at the Birmingham-Southern Icebreaker Dec. 6, 2019. Hughes won her first college indoor pole vault crown Sunday.

  • Kolbeinn Gunnarsson won his first career indoor men’s 200 meters title.
  • Ladasia Walton posted a personal-best effort in the women’s high jump. She improved on her previous-best by 2.25 inches. Since her freshman campaign in 2018-19, Walton has improved her high jump mark by 4.25 inches.
  • Sam Jones set his personal-best in the triple jump by nearly two feet in Sunday’s meet.
  • Robby Watson improved his personal-best in the men’s shot put by nearly three feet. His previous-best was 49-7.25 as a freshman at Southern Miss in 2017-18.
  • Jada Crutchfield set personal-bests in both the women’s 60 and 200 meters.
  • Paris Perkins ran a personal-best in the women’s 60 meters.
  • Hunter Miniard posted a personal-best in the men’s 200 meters.
  • Calvin Austin III ran in the first men’s indoor 400 meters event of his career.
  • Peter Kostarellis and Emmanuel Cullins made their collegiate indoor debuts Sunday. Both ran in the men’s mile.
  • Zachary Wyatt ran a personal-best in the men’s 3000 meters. He improved his time in the event by two seconds.
  • Parker Evans and Oliver Tomann set personal-bests in the shot put Sunday.
  • Vigdis Jonsdottir threw a personal-best in the women’s weight throw. She bettered her previous-best by 1.5 feet.
  • Seven women’s distance runners made their college indoor debuts Sunday.
