The Air Zoom Pegasus has long been one of Nike’s most popular and versatile running shoes, but the road trainer hasn’t been as effective once the pavement ends. So Nike is launching a trail-specific version—its first meaningful trail revamp since the Nike Air Trail Pegasus series of the 2000s. A road-trail hybrid, the Zoom Air Pegasus Trail 36 builds off a soft rubber Pegasus outsole and adds chunkier lugs for grip on technical terrain. It’s a shoe designed to take you beyond the “Road Ends” sign and back without letting you lose your footing or feel all of the sharp rocks beneath you.
The Peg Trail 36 has a redesigned full mesh upper with added reinforcement in the forefoot and heel for extra durability and protection against trail obstacles. Two Zoom Air units fill out the midsole—one in the forefoot and one in the heel—for support on varying terrain. The outsole’s flat-top lugs are designed to grip into the dirt without feeling clunky on road runs.
