If Christmas has left you craving a health kick there are plenty of running events to help you get fit in the New Year.
Whether you’re just starting out with a 5k or you’re after more of a challenge and want to take on a half marathon you are spoilt for choice with races throughout Wales.
Here are all of the details for the upcoming 5k, 10k, and half marathon races taking place in 2020.
Buff Wales Canicross Trail 5k and 10k
Saturday, January 11 – Afan Forest
You can take in the breathtaking views along the tracks and trails of the Afan Forest during these two events.
The route is mixed with some hill climbs as well as fast and fun downhill tracks before hitting the notorious wall at the end of the 10k.

Coastal Trail Series, Half Marathon and 10k
Saturday, January 11 – Anglesey
Runners can choose between a 10k, half marathon, marathon, or ultra marathon race.
While the remote location makes it a tough course for participants the event is still regarded as very scenic.
Entry fee: 10k is £33 while the half marathon is £44

Speedway 10k
Sunday, January 19 – Chepstow
The 10k flat and fast course consists of two laps and is ideal for those pushing for a personal best.
Don’t expect any T-shirts, medals or goody bags on the day as organisers say it’s about “going out and getting the job done”.

Margam Park 10k
Sunday, January 26 – Margam Park
The stunning grounds of Margam Park will host the 10k race which will start in the car park before heading up towards the castle and up the side of the mountain.
This event is suitable for both beginners and more experienced runners and is fully supported with marshals.

Worms Head 10k
Sunday, February 2 – Rhossili, Gower
There is gender separation at this event so men and women compete for first place in their respective category.
Fancy dress is also welcome as long as it doesn’t endanger any runners.

Cardiff Winter Warmer 5k and 10k
Sunday, February 2 – Bute Park, Cardiff
You can either run 5k or 10k around Bute Park for this event.
Sweets, drinks, a meal and full race chip timing are all included and the event supports Shelter Cymru.

Llanelli Half Marathon
Sunday, February 9 – Llanelli
Returning for another year, Llanelli’s half marathon is a fully closed-road event.
The race starts at the home of the Scarlets rugby team, Parc y Scarlets, and leads runners along the Millennium Coastal Path before finishing back at the stadium.

Llandudno Nick Beer 10k
Sunday, February 9 – Llandudno
The road-running race attracts around 700 entries each year and heads out along the Promenade and around the Great Orme. It also features a 1k fun run.

Village Bakery Wrexham Half
Sunday, February 16 – Wrexham
This race is popular with some of the fastest runners in the region as well as those tackling distance for the first time.
The first person to cross the line earns themselves £300 while second gets £200 and third £100.

Hoka Winter Trail Half Marathon
Saturday, February 22 – Afan Forest Park
The course has some of the most spectacular views a runner can imagine as they head through the forestry.
It is a fully marked and marshalled half marathon.

Ruthin 5k and 10k
Sunday, February 23 – Ruthin
Runners will be guided on a journey through the Vale of Clwyd before eventually heading back to Ruthin Leisure Centre.
The 5k event is open for all those over the age of 11 while the 10k is for those aged 15 and over.

Red Kite Trail Series Spring, half marathon and 10k
Saturday, February 29 – Llanharan, Pontyclun
After last year’s success the event is returning for another year.
Staring and finishing in Llanharan the routes mirror each other for the first few miles before breaking off at various points.

Ras Dewi Sant, half marathon and 10k
Saturday, February 29 – St David’s
The routes are predominantly on the coast path and pass by some of the most scenic and historical sites in Wales.
It has a great atmosphere among the runners and a great day out but not one to be underestimated.

Leap Frog 5k, 10k and half marathon
Saturday, February 29 – Port Talbot
Every entrant will receive a 90mm bespoke medal specific to marathon or half marathon, plus a goody bag filled with treats for your journey home.
The event stretches across two days and if you decide to run on both days you will also receive an extra medal.

Jones Crisps Anglesey Half Marathon and 10k
Sunday, March 1 – Anglesey
Registration will open from 7.30am before the half marathon gets going at 9am and the 10k at 9.40am.
The Menai Suspension Bridge will once again be the starting point as participants will be running in front of a Snowdonia backdrop.

Admiral Newport Half Marathon

The start of the Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon is in the heart of the city centre in Commercial Street.

Denbighshire 5k and 10k
Sunday, March 8 – Denbigh
Runners facing the 5k will be taken on and off-road on a journey through tracks and footpaths.

Four Seasons Spring 5k, 10k and Half Marathon
Sunday, March 22 – Aberdare
The first of its kind will take place in the stunning Dare Valley Country Park.
Participants can choose to complete as many or as few laps as they wish, taking in the lakes and beautiful paths along the way.

Griffin Mill Merthyr Half Marathon
Sunday, March 29 – Merthyr
The course takes in the historic Trevithick and Taff Trails and is mainly run on Tarmac with a small trail section.

Teifi Valley 10k
Sunday, March 29 – Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire
This 10km route takes you down one side of the Teifi Valley to Cenarth Falls and you return on the other side back to the finish at Newcastle Emlyn.

Great Welsh Half Marathon
Sunday, April 5 – Pembrey Country Park, Carmarthenshire
The fully closed road event will see runners start and finish at Pembrey Country Park.
It is Wales’ oldest marathon and is flat, friendly and incredibly scenic, making it suitable for runners of all abilities.

Sanlam Coast Half Marathon

Sunday, May 17- Newborough Forest, Anglesey
Starting in the beautiful surroundings of Newborough Forest, the course takes you through the trees onto the beautiful winding woodland trails.
Continuing along Afon Cefni and back into the forest, the course loops round to bring runners back to where they started and a heroes’ welcome from the spectators on the finish line.

Saturday, June 20 – Coed y Brenin, Snowdonia
This unique half marathon is already established as one of Wales’ finest trail marathons taking in fully marked trail single track forest roads and paths in some of the most stunning forestry and heathland in the UK.
The route is situated in the stunning trails and tracks of the renowned Coed y Brenin forest in the Snowdonia National Park.

Sunday, June 21 – Rhyl, Denbighshire
This event was set up with the aim of helping runners achieve their personal bests.
Each race is set along the promenade at the seaside town of Rhyl and is ideal for both club runners and fun runners.
