Davis Third After First Day Of Vanderbilt Invite Heptathlon … – University of Tennessee Athletics

NASHVILLE — With four events complete in the Vanderbilt Invitational men’s heptathlon, Tennessee redshirt junior Peyton Davis sits third in the standings with 2,776 points. The multi-event specialist from Centralia, Missouri, wraps up the competition Saturday morning with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.
 
Davis opened the meet with an even 700 points in the 60-meter dash, turning in a time of 7.54 before tallying 799 points on a 6.94m (22-9.25) long jump that was five centimeters shy of his indoor PR. He threw 11.58m (38-0) for 581 points in the shot put and concluded day one with a 1.88m (6-2) clearance in the high jump, netting 696 points for the afternoon’s total of 2,776.
 
Auburn junior John Murray leads the pack with 3,366 points, followed by ULM sophomore Joseph McEvoy who ranks second with 2,964. Auburn freshman James Patrick and Louisiana sophomore Luke Benoit round out the top five with 2,708 and 2,643, respectively.
 
As Davis concludes the heptathlon Saturday, he will be joined by a host of Tennessee distance runners and pole vaulters in Nashville. UT athletes are entered in the 800-meter, mile and 3,000-meter run in addition to having three registered for the women’s pole vault on the final day of competition at Vanderbilt.
 
Tennessee’s sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers are currently in action at the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, South Carolina, with the meet running Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21 at the Carolina Indoor track facility.
