For all you brave souls: The DFW Dog Walk of the Dead, at 5 p.m. Saturday, is a 5K that invites two-legged runners to be survivors or zombies trying to grab their flags on the trails at Richard Greene Linear Park in Arlington. A dog-friendly 1-mile fun run/walk, a dog walk with agility and a rescue dog walk will follow.
Then an after party in the Backyard at Texas Live! will feature live music, vendors, food, games, doggy yoga and more. Awards will be given for the best zombie costumes (human and dog).
The venue, at 1650 E. Randol Mill Road, will be open at 4 p.m. for check-in and last-minute registration, and spectators are welcome to hang out there or watch along the route of the race. $10 to $45, with proceeds going to local rescue groups. dfwdogwalkofthedead.com.

The 22nd annual Basset Hound Shuffle and Games, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Leon Hogg Amphitheater in Euless, will feature vendors including one offering nail trims, a raffle and contests including best costume. 1951 Bear Creek Parkway. $25 for the first basset, $35 for two or more. Irving’s Poochfest, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday outside the Heritage Senior Center, will feature costume and talent contests along with vendors and a play area. The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection will offer low-cost microchipping, vaccinations and other wellness services until noon. Leashes and vaccinations are required. 200 S. Howl-oween at the Hollywood Feed store in Allen on Saturday will have a costume contest for the pets all day long.
