Just bumped into a Richard ‘five-timer’ Hannon exiting Newbury.

He couldn’t stop smiling and was clutching a bottle of champagne with the look of a man who wanted to celebrate.

“Now…” he said “… that was a very good day!”

What a day for Richard Hannon…

Ritchie Valens brought up a 4,458-1 five-timer for his red-hot yard when edging out Tammooz and Fantastic Blue in a nail-biting finish to Newbury’s eighth.

That was the 100th winner of the year for happy Hannon – let’s hope someone in the yard had a crack at a `Super Yankee’!

Meanwhile, David Menuisier wasn’t too downhearted by Edmond Dantes run and had news of his recent German Group 1 winner Danceteria, saying: “We’d been planning the German race for him since May, so it was tremendous to see him pull it off.

“He was always going best and just killed them with that burst of speed he has. We’ll get him ready for the Cox Plate in Australia now and the good thing is he’ll stay in training next year.

“He’s still strengthening so I’m sure he’ll be even better then. I’d like to think he’ll be competitive in the top British races with another year on his back.

“The two-year-old I ran earlier – Luigi Vampa – is from the same family and I think he’ll be pretty good too. He was very green today and will need time, but really is one you should follow. Stick with him.”

Tavus cost the Billy Bunter’s the Greek national debt when beaten at Windsor last time but made no mistake when digging deep to pinch Newbury’s seventh.

Meanwhile, Richard Hannon was still thinking about what might have been with Divine Covey in the previous race, saying: “She travelled best and might just have won with a clear run through.

    “That’s racing though!”

The red-hot trainer also had news of last week’s Glorious Goodwood disappointment Mystery Power:

“We think the world of the horse but he ran poorly last week.

“Don’t worry though – we had him scoped and his lungs were full of muck. He’s much better than that.”
