Racing tips: Lanzarote Hurdle runners and riders: Your Pinstickers’ guide to Kempton’s big race live on ITV – The Sun
He finished with a real flourish to suggest this slightly longer distance will be right up his street.
He lugged to the right a couple of times on the left-handed Mildmay Course so should be in his element at Kempton. The handicapper hasn’t gone mad with an 8lb rise and there should be a lot more to come.
It could be a blessing in disguise for Nicky Henderson that Burrows Edge took a tumble when still going well on his chase debut at Ludlow last time.
He showed promise over hurdles last season and landed a couple of decent places around here. This trip is ideal and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back with a win.
Larkbarrow Lad had a bit up his sleeve when winning on handicap debut at Worcester in October. He sees out this trip well and doesn’t mind a bit of cut in the ground.
Northofthewall could improve for this longer distance and won pulling a bus at Hereford last time. He looks on a fair mark and has live place claims.
Burrows Park is upped in class here but won with plenty in hand at Hereford so could run into the places.
Vive Le Roi looks the pick of the big prices after getting right back to his best when third at Newbury last time out.
CANYON ain’t grand. Struggled in a much softer race here on Boxing Day and last win was over a longer trip at Haydock in May. Has dropped to just 3lb higher than that success but likes better ground than he’s likely to face here. There could be improvement to come as a seven-year-old but he looks a little outclassed in this company.
ROI wonder. Had a good spell last season when winning three handicaps over this sort of trip but then struggled a little in better company. Came right back to his best when finishing a close-up third at Newbury last time when the three-mile trip seemed to suit really well. This drop in distance at a speed track isn’t ideal but he could stay on into the frame.
VAL isn’t my pal. Having his first run over hurdles since way back in 2016 but he did win a couple of decent races as a youngster, including over this course and distance. Is a Listed winner at best over fences but has lost his way lately and didn’t get going on his comeback at Cheltenham last time. Hard to see him bouncing back over the smaller obstacles at this stage of his career.
NO walk in the Park. Has been running well in slightly easier races including when winning nicely against four rivals at Hereford last time. Did it well enough though and this trip looks ideal. Handicapper has been fair with a 5lb rise in the weights and some give in the ground is fine. Needs to raise game but seems to get on well with today’s amateur rider.
LIKELY Lad. Consistent performer over this sort of trip and got off the mark on his handicap debut at Worcester last time. He made a few jumping errors there but showed plenty of staying power to win going away. This is tougher from a higher mark but it’s relatively early days for him and there could be more to come.
CHANAY won’t pay. Won a couple of minor handicaps over timber before going chasing where he didn’t show a lot on two starts. Didn’t get going here on Boxing Day returned to hurdling and hard to see him landing a blow at this level.
BURROWS can dig deep. Goes back over timber after taking a tumble on his chasing debut at Ludlow last month. Held his own in some hot handicaps over hurdles last season including when placed a couple of times over course and distance. Has few miles on the clock and could improve for Nicky Henderson, who has a decent record in this race.
TURN the other Echiquier. Did well over fences in France but has been kept to hurdles over here, including when showing little in modest company at Southwell last time. His best form has come over longer trips and he should find things happening a little too quickly here.
PARI a good match. Looked a really nice prospect when winning with plenty left in the tank at Aintree last time. That was over a furlong shorter but he wasn’t stopping and clearly enjoyed the flat track. The handicapper has shoved him up 8lb which looks fair and he must be a leading contender with just four runs under his belt.
WALL is a climber. Showed promise when third on his handicap debut at Ascot in November before stepping up on that to win as he liked at Hereford last time. This is hotter company but he shapes as though the longer distance will be fine and more rain wouldn’t be an issue. He looks on a fair mark with improvement to come.
DEV needs to rev. Has had just three runs so far and has been beaten a total of 60 lengths on his last two after making a winning start at Uttoxeter. There’s no real explanation for that and he has something to prove after struggling at Doncaster’s Christmas meeting.
NO go Joe. Has had a little help from the handicapper after a modest effort here on Boxing Day in a lesser race. He has no issues seeing out this distance and all ground seems to come the same to him. Looks a little short of this level but is with top connections and could improve on what we’ve seen lately. He needs to though.
CALL has claims. Came back from six months off with a fair fourth at Market Rasen and has had another little break since then. Landed a bumper plus a couple of egg-and-spoon races over timber last season and hasn’t been over-rated by the handicapper. Could have more to offer for Alan King.
NOT Debest choice. Novice winner at Plumpton this time last year and has not been disgraced since moving into handicaps without looking like winning one. Solid fifth at Cheltenham last time when the step up to three miles looked a wise move. Has come down the weights a little but needs to find more.
