Rebranded RUN Varsity Aims to Support Teenagers Moving Endurance Sportswire
The change from 4RUN2 Varsity to RUN Varsity will make the program more inclusive of ALL youth in the area
PITTSBURGH /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – P3R has announced that 4RUN2 Varsity has rebranded to RUN Varsity. The rebrand is designed to be more inclusive of ALL youth in the area. RUN Varsity adds to P3R’s robust programming to motivate any and all to MOVE and will continue to support, educate and encourage teenage runners.
“P3R serves youth throughout the entire region, and we didn’t want to limit our programming just to teenagers living in the 412 area code, as our previous title alluded to,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “All teenagers are welcome at RUN Varsity events, which we hope inspire a lifelong love of moving.”
RUN Varsity is the perfect next step for kids who have participated in P3R’s award-winning Kids of STEEL program and are looking to stay involved with P3R. Since 2011, more than 60,000 children have completed P3R’s free youth training program and most still participate in some type of sport at the middle school or high school level. Through RUN Varsity, P3R hopes to stay connected in a positive way with students throughout their teenage years.
“We want to support teenagers regardless of what sport they are involved with, as movement happens in many ways. The events through RUN Varsity will be beneficial to all teenagers,” said Amy Scheuneman, P3R Youth Programming Director. “RUN Varsity is not intended to interfere with normal school sports seasons but rather supplement them with financial assistance, summer events, team building opportunities and educational components such as webinars, blogs and videos.”
To start, on Feb. 16, RUN Varsity will be hosting a webinar with Greg Nance, an ultramarathoner and mental health advocate. Topics will include long-distance running tips, mental toughness, conquering stress management, how to be an inspiration to others, and the importance of volunteerism. RUN Varsity will also be introducing a Summer Run Series in 2023. This series will include races, events, and educational discussions for middle and high school students.
RUN Varsity also provides scholarships and grant opportunities for youth in the area. Applications are currently being accepted for the P3R Board of Directors’ Scholarship, which recognizes and supports graduating high school seniors who inspire others to MOVE. P3R awarded more than $10,000 in Movement Grants in 2022 and will open applications again this fall. Schools, teams, clubs, and individuals can apply for grants, which can be used for equipment, registration fees, hosting events, or anything that will help individuals or teams MOVE.
