Ethiopian runner Hagos Gebrhiwet was taking part in the 5,000m race at the IAAF Diamond League race in Lausanne, when he made the slightly awkward error of celebrating too soon. In videos of the race, Gebrhiwet can be seen slowing down a lap before the finish line on Saturday, only to realise the other runners were still running.

Sadly for Gebrhiwet, who was leading the race when the golden bell was rung, signalling the start of the final lap, the blunder cost him the top spot, as he crossed the line in tenth place, with a time of 13:09.59.

Indoor mile World Record Holder Yomif Kejelcha made the most of Gebrhiwet’s error and won the race in a time of 13:00.56.
