True to the Brew 5K returns to Palmetto Trail  The Independent Voice of Blythewood & Fairfield County


PEAK – The 6th Annual True to the Brew 10k Hike & Run returns to the Peak to Prosperity Passage of the Palmetto Trail on Saturday, March 25. In an effort to ensure that all runners have a choice, there will be a live race and a virtual race, both $50 until Feb. 28, 2023.

Proceeds from the hike and run benefit The Palmetto Conservation Foundation, whose mission is to foster an appreciation for South Carolina’s natural and cultural resources, providing opportunities for active recreation on the Palmetto Trail and other trail systems that can be enjoyed by all in South Carolina, regardless of gender, race, creed, age, or ability.

Live Race

The True to the Brew 10K Trail Run/Hike will start at 8 a.m. in Pomaria at the entrance to the Palmetto Trail behind Wilson’s Grocery on 5941 US-176 and end at  the impressive Broad River trestle. 

This beautiful trail is located on an old railroad trail. It is non-technical, wide, mostly flat and great for runners and hikers of all levels. Several water/aide stations will be located along the route.

A Finish Line Celebration will await runners, complete with live music provided by The Biggest Wave and great food and a free beer from Craft & Draft.

Awards will be given for the following categories at the live race: Overall Male (1st, 2nd, 3rd), Overall Female (1st, 2nd, 3rd), Overall Masters Male (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and Overall Masters Female (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

In an effort to keep runners safe on the trail, the live race will be capped at 300 participants. Participants registered by Feb. 16 will be guaranteed a shirt.

The event is rain or shine.  Dogs on leashes are welcome.  No strollers. This event is nonrefundable.  No Race Deferrals after Feb. 28.

Race day parking will be available at the Pomaria Baseball Fields on Folk Street.  There will be no parking around Wilson’s Grocery Store. Shuttles for participants and spectators from the parking area to the start line will begin at 7 am.  The last shuttle will leave at 8:15am.

Virtual Race

After choosing the virtual option with registration, runners and hikers can complete their 10k distance “virtually anywhere” from March 1 – March 25. Runners will have the option to report results through on the run’s registration site.

Virtual participants will receive a long sleeve hoodie race shirt and custom Palmetto Trail award, which will be mailed after the event ends.
