Wright and Beaver Local sophomore James Monte had state runner-up finishes at the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) Division II-III indoor state championship Saturday.

Wright — who has had limited training due to basketball season– finished second in the 60-meter dash in 7.03 seconds, trailing only Dayton Chaminade Julienne senior Calvin Hather (6.94).

Wright is the defending Division III outdoor state champion in the 100-meter dash and long jump and runner-up in the 200 dash.

He finished 17th in the 200 dash (23.11) Saturday.

In the boys 60 hurdles, James Monte was second (8.24) and United senior Jaret Hahn fourth (8.29).

Lakeview senior Liam Voivin was the state champion in 8.12 seconds.

At the state meet last June, Voivin was fourth and Monte sixth in Division II, while Hahn was fourth in Division III.

Two area boys claimed third places in the field events. East Liverpool junior Cameron Beverly in the high jump (a personal-best 6-foot-5) and Minerva junior Garrison Markins in the long jump (20-10).

Finishing ahead of Beverly in the high jump were Springfield Shawnee senior Robie Glass (6-10) — a two-time Division II outdoor state champion and Kent State University football recruit — and East Canton senior and defending Division III state runner-up Gavin Schoeneman (6-7).

Salem senior twins Hunter and Cameron Christopher placed fourth in their respective distance races — Hunter in the 1600 run (4:25.56) and Cameron in the 3200 run (9:44.91).

Salem junior Lizzy Shontz also was fourth in the girls shot put (38-11).

Beaver Local senior Teddi Kinsey was sixth in the girls 60 hurdles (9.13) and seventh in the 200 dash (26.14), while sister Kodi Kinsey, a sophomore, was sixth in the long jump (15-11 3/4)

Salem junior Carly Hall was seventh in the girls 1600 run (5:23.07)

East Liverpool senior Izaiaha Browning was eighth in the boys 1600 run (4:31.10).

Also competing in the girls events, Salem senior Abbie Antram was 13th in the shot put (35-8 1/4) and 13th in the weight throw (41-2 1/4); Salem sophomore Molly Hopple was 13th in the 3200 run (11:55.28); Minerva sophomore Madeline Crissman was 21st in the 3200 run (12:49.67); and Minerva freshman Cleo Miller was 25th in the high jump (4-8).

Shontz fouled on her three attempts in the weight throw.

Two area girls teams ran in the 3200 relay. Salem junior Halle Cochran, senior Emily Manski, sophomore Molly Hopple and Hall were 12th (10:33.32) and Minerva junior Aubrey Dunham, sophomore Madeline Crissman, freshman Caitlyn Hopple and senior Layla Monroe were 20th (10:55.59).

Other boys participants included East Liverpool senior Michael Billingsley, 10th in the 60 dash (7.20) and 16th in the 200 dash (23.09); Minerva senior Nick Bledsoe, 12th in the 3200 run (10:01.94); James Monte, 13th in the 200 dash (22.96); Beaver Local sophomore Joe Monte, 21st in the long jump (16-3); and Wellsville sophomore Garrett Krzyston, 23rd in the 60 hurdles (9.38)

Western Reserve senior Josh Miller, who qualified for the state meet with the longest jump, fouled on his three attempts.

Beachwood swept the team titles. The boys won with 37 points, followed by Heath with 35. Salem topped local teams by tying for 10th with 10 points.

The Beachwood girls won with 57 points, followed by Dayton Chaminade Julienne with 33. The top local team was Beaver Local, which tied for 25th with eight points.

There were 62 schools that scored in the boys meet and 50 schools in the girls meet.
